Seaside Series
Seaside is for memory
who doesn’t remember the coast?
the warm, the cold
the stroll in your lovers arms
the escape from the present weight
the seaside is vast
it can absorb all you bring to it
it will take it away, never to be found
or, return it changed
the seaside both remembers and forgets
Water seems to course through our bloodstream. Those oceans, lakes, rivers and streams all flow and course through the causeway of our veins.
B grew up on the shores of the Upper Peninsula in Michigan, the Great Lakes State, learning to swim emersed in waters tinged with copper and iron ore. Dan summered and lived in Connecticut where his grandmother, who he called Babcia in Hungarian, often gave him seaside days, embracing the waves of the Atlantic Ocean. Even from childhood, what we both had in common was the color of water.
Our cultivated Seaside Series’ color palate is a brackish brown blanketed by the sun’s warm tones. This hue speaks not to the warm blue oceans and tropical waters so many seek, but to the darker, brackish colors found in lakes, silted glacial streams and the colder northern Atlantic and Pacific coastal oceans. While at times they may see seasons of warmth, the cold waters can bring a rejuvenation and warm vitality all their own. This collection of storied imagery and poetry reminds us that seaside is for memory.
